This course introduces the teacher candidate to the knowledge and skills needed when designing and implementing a curriculum and assessments, associated with the candidate’s school setting. Emphasis is placed on learning the theory behind curriculum design, developing a knowledge base of various curricula designs, and how to systematically plan an inclusive curriculum that can engage all learners. Teacher candidates will plan effective, rigorous standard based curriculum, and make decisions regarding their teaching using student learning benchmarks. They will make insightful decisions regarding teaching and learning, using formative and summative assessments that align to their curriculum. Teacher candidates will utilize the Massachusetts Curriculum Standards and be able to integrate them into their curriculum and classrooms regularly.
